ASPHA MEETINGS/ CONFERENCE
The ASPHA annual conference provides a forum for people from the various Public Health Institutions to share individual knowledge, expertise and public health training to improve the quality of trainees who graduate from these institutions, to share and address their individual problems and to devise innovative techniques and methods to achieve more financial independence. The conference also provide a scientific forum for discussion on issues relating to public health training and education; to reinforce networking among members and to offer an opportunity for discussing ASPHA programs and projects.
2017 ASPHA AGM
The 8th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Association of Schools of Public Health in Africa (ASPHA) was held on April 27, 2017 at the Emerald Hotel, Nairobi, Kenya. The ASPHA meeting brought together eighteen (18) delegates from five (5) different countries (Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya and South Sudan) with three people via Skype. Among them was Dr. Victor Joseph from UK Public Health (Faculty of Public Health). Most members who planned to join the meeting via Skype were unable to do so due to the time difference. 2016 ASPHA AGM
The 7th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Association of Schools of Public Health in Africa (ASPHA) was held in conjunction with the 2nd African Federation of Public Health Association (AFPHA) and the 3rd Society for Public Health Professionals of Nigeria (SPHPN) Conference from September 5-9, 2016 at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. The ASPHA meeting brought together thirteen (13) delegates from five (5) different countries (Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa and United Kingdom). 2015 ASPHA AGM
The 6th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Association of Schools of Public Health in Africa (ASPHA) was held in collaboration with the 11th Joint Annual Scientific Health Conference organized by the Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda from September 23-25, 2015 at the Speke Resort, Munyonyo. The ASPHA meeting brought together Thirty-one (31) delegates from five (5) different countries (Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa and Uganda). The theme for the meeting was “Curriculum review, achieving relevance and quality in Africa.” Download report
2014 ASPHA AGM
The 5th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Association of Schools of Public Health in Africa (ASPHA) was held in Cape Town, South Africa on 4th October, 2014 at the University of Cape Town. This meeting was held to coincide with the Third Global Symposium on Health Systems where the Swedish International Development Agency funded a Stall for us to advertise our mission and recruit new members. We also co-hosted a seminar on “Innovation in Strengthening Health Systems and Services Research capacity in Africa”. This conference was aimed to finalise the Paper on Core Competencies of a Public Health Graduate and also to outline a couple of projects that will be undertaken in the coming year. Download Report
2013 ASPHA AGM
The 4th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Association of Schools of Public Health in Africa (ASPHA) was held in Cape Town, South Africa on 28th September, 2013 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. This conference was aimed to build upon the development of the Core Competencies of a Public Health Graduate and also outline new strategies to get more African Schools of Public Health on board. 2012 ASPHA Conference & 3RD AGM
The 3rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Association of Schools of Public Health in Africa (ASPHA) was held in conjunction with the 4th Global Health Summit of Schools of Public Health in Accra, Ghana from 9-10 December, 2012 at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel. The theme for the meeting was ‘Policy and Health Systems Research: The Contribution of Schools of Public Health’. During the 3rd ASPHA AGM held on December 9, 2012, delegates agreed on a number of issues concerning core competencies and curricula reform in public health training. A declaration on promoting collaboration in public health education, training and capacity-building in research across regions by forging links, sharing experience and opportunities for joint funding to support these activities was signed at the Fourth Global Health Summit of Schools of Public Health on December 10, 2012 in Accra by Prof. John Finnegan (Jr., MA, PhD) of ASPH, Prof. Antoine Flahault (MD, PhD) of ASPHER, Prof. Fred Binka (MB ChB, MPH, PhD) of ASPHA, Prof. Sir Andy Haines (MBBS, MD, FFPN) of EAGHA. The signatories also proposed the creation of a “World Federation of Associations of Schools of Public and Global Health” which would bring together existing regional Associations of Schools of Public Health and all academic institutions that offer programmes in public and global health. 2011 ASPHA Conference
The 2nd ASPHA Conference was aimed to build upon our initial goals and strategies for the development of the association and also to outline a couple of projects that will be undertaken in the coming year to endorse our constitution and develop strategies on how we can link up with other institutions with similar goals. Committees were formed during this meeting. Public Health Education/ Curriculum Development Committee, Advocacy and Fundraising Committee and Research Committee were formed at the Conference. This 2nd ASPHA conference was held on the 5th of November 2011 at the Red Court Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya. Download Report
