2019 ASPHA CONFERENCE

Golf Course Hotel, Kampala |October 14-16

The Association of Schools of Public Health in Africa (ASPHA) invites you to our 2019 Conference. This year, we plan to have a conference in addition to our annual meeting and the celebration of the Silver Jubilee (25 years) of the Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH). The conference will bring Africans and other regional public health associations together to engage on the critical issues that impact health and health care delivery in Africa. More importantly, this conference will help develop a unified voice for promoting public health education in Africa through training of public health workforce with the competencies required in combating disease and poverty on the African continent, and also to achieve the Universal Health Coverage (UHC). This conference we hope will help define and address the role of public health workforce training in health system strengthening to attain the UHC.

The theme for the conference is “Universal Health Coverage in Africa: The Role of Public Health Workforce” which will help understand the public health workforce need, challenges and solutions. This conference will be hosted by the School of Public Health, Makerere University who will also be celebrating their Silver Jubilee dubbed “25 Years of Providing Public Health Education in Africa”. Based on the theme, ASPHA strongly believes that empowering public health graduates with the required competencies to conduct evidence-based research will go a long way to improve health policy decisions and eventually help attain UHC. The conference programme will consist of expert plenaries, oral and poster research presentations and also create a forum for various institutions to network and share innovative ideas, expertise and public health training methods.
